What is the Foundation?
The Spokane Public Library Foundation is the library’s nonprofit fundraising and advocacy partner.
We provide a way for people who love libraries to contribute financial support and advocate for the Spokane Public Library. Together we enhance the impact of the Library on our community and ensure its long-term vitality.
The Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation established in 1989, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
Mission and vision
The Foundation seeks to enhance programming, services, and resources offered by Spokane Public Library through advocacy, partnerships, and private dollars to ensure the library’s excellence.
We share with the Library a vision of a community of learning, inspiring a thriving city through cultural and educational opportunities.
The Foundation supports activities and facilities that are over and above what is provided to the Library by the public sector.
Library advocacy
We believe a well-funded library is the heart of a thriving city. Our advocacy work has driven historic results:
-
Passed with 57% approval, the levy maintained vital service hours and supported the continued elimination of late fines.
-
The $77 million “Imagine the Library of the Future” campaign passed with 65% approval, delivering three new buildings, four renovation, and updated books for every Spokane middle school.
-
We help bridge gaps between the Library and City Hall, ensuring our leaders understand — and fund — the evolving needs of our neighbors.
